Once we landed in Kavala, I went ahead and assembled my camera. These pictures are from the ferry boat ride over to the island and from our first dinner on the drive up to the house. The picture above is the ferry boat coming into the port of Keramoti (where we were waiting). As it reaches the dock, the loading ramp lowers so the cars and buses can drive off.
My mom and Parker were watching everyone unload. Parker had already ridden on cars, trams and planes in the last 24 hours and he was eager to add boats to his list of transportation sources.
Here he is being goofy on the ferry boat. I asked him to strike a pose and this is what he gave me.
This is the view from the back of the ferry as we're leaving the port. We left the relative flat lands of the city for the mountains of our island.
The white you see in the picture below is the marble quarry on the island. Marble is the cheapest commodity that you can purchase because it's so plentiful here. We have random chunks of marble as doorstops around the house. Wood on the other hand is extremely expensive. So, when you enter someone's home over here, marble floors are quite common whereas wood flooring indicates wealth.
Here's my happy boy mugging for the camera. My father was waiting for us on the island and he was eager to meet up with his "papou."
This is the small dock directly outside of the taverna where we ate dinner. It was such a serene sight.
Here is Parker with the friendly British boy that he made friends with. He was probably 9 or so, but he was desperate for English-speaking company so he included Parker in his games right away, which consisted of building moats and seeing how far they could jump off of the dock.
