One of my favorite birthday traditions is that from sun up to sun down, the birthday boy gets to pick what he eats, what he does and when he crashes. It's the only day of the year where all of the house rules go out the window. Parker started his day with octopus pancakes and a hot chocolate and he played at home until I got done with teaching for the day. Then we headed out to the Fun Factory (which truth be told, is never fun for this momma).
Okay, maybe it's a little bit fun.
I take shooting games pretty seriously.
Thankfully, there are dozens of arcade games (not all of which involve firearms).
There is also a merry go round...
...and a train to ride...
...and also a bowling alley.
Parker had a blast and he was on fire! He bowled a double strike!
"Daddy, I got 2 strikes. I'm really good at this!" (Parker does not suffer from modesty.)
Four hours and five exhausted adults later, we headed back to the house. It was time to open presents...
...and eat more cupcakes. I arranged these cupcakes into the (crude) shape of a dinosaur, just to make the presentation a bit more interesting.
The best thing about four year olds is that they have a wonderful imagination and instead of commenting on my lack of cupcake decorating skills, Parker thought that "Trainy Cranky" (as he has named the dinosaur) was perfect. All in all, Parker had a wonderful day and this tired momma is glad that it's over.
